We’d been planning a trip up to San Francisco for some time to meet up with Mike and Susie. Our trip was scheduled so we’d get to watch some professional beach volleyball. The weekend was wonderful. First having arrived and meeting M&S down at Fisherman’s Wharf. Then off to the Presidio where we were lucky enough to find a large print photography exhibit by an aerial photographer. Dinner that evening with Shannon Adams, then up the next morning for a day on the town.
The Legion of Honor is an art museum with a large collection of famous works by some famous artists including Degas, Cezanne, Monet, and Picasso. From the Legion we took Muni downtown to Farmer’s Market. After the tail end of that we stopped for some lunch, then met up with Rich (Toby’s cousin) at the yacht club. He was voluntarily tending bar that day for the club. It didn’t take much to schmooze the tender for a few complimentary drinks. Muni brought us back downtown where we enjoyed a little pre-dinner snack at The Cheesecake Factory. Cheesecake should really be a common appetizer.
Sunday morning came with much anticipation. We drove the truck down and parked pretty much under the Bay Bridge and walked 2 blocks down to pier 32 where the volleyball action had already begun. The setting was spectacular with the Bay Bridge and the San Francisco skyline in the background. Four matches later we headed back to the truck to send M&S on their way to the airport, only to find that our back window was busted out. And I was worried about getting a parking ticket!! If only I were so lucky. The laptop bag was gone. My first thought was “Yah! I get a new laptop.” It wasn’t until later that we realized what was actually missing. Bummer . . . yes . . . but it could have been worse. We try to keep the glass at least half full. After a call to our insurance company, we set out on a nice sail in the bay with our cousin Rich and his wife Alisa. Despite the recent event, watching sunset behind a silhouetted San Francisco skyline was the perfect end to a wonderful weekend.
Something I’m proud of is the way Nay and I handle situations like this. We had a choice. We chose to stay happy.
