Canon 50D

Yesterday was kind of momentous for me.  After three and a half years I finally upgraded my camera.  The archaic Canon 20D just hasn’t been up to par.  A couple of my stock agencies are requiring certain file sizes to submit.  My little old 8 megapixel camera was just barely making the cut.  I’ll keep her around as my backup now, just in case I should drop my new one into a hippo’s mouth in Africa this coming winter.  After some considerable research, it came down to the Canon 50D.  It was just released a month ago and placed on the shelves just yesterday.  It’s the same amateur/pro camera as the 20D, but three generations later.  So there are a lot of upgrades.  It’s not quite what I’ve been wanting to move up to, but when I’m out-and-about gallivanting around without a full time job, and money somehow seems to just make it in time to pay the bills, well I just can’t always get what I want.  There’s always the possibility of someday.

Yesterday’s quick test shots left me feeling good about the 50D and I’ll enjoy more shooting with it.  Here’s a pic from the first batch of shots.  This is Logan, Julie’s dog.

This afternoon our friend Amanda invited us out on a photography adventure.  With limited time we ran down the street to North Hollywood (NoHo) and walked around snapping pictures of whatever inspired us.  Here are some of my pics.  Nay shot too and I’ll try to get her to narrow down a few pics from her collection to show you all.

Spring Trout Fishing Game

I received an email from JCG (Justinen Creative Group) this morning with a project that they have been working on for quite some time now.  The client finally received their shipment of the final product from the manufacturer.  It’s exciting to see a product come to completion.  It’s an interactive family fishing game that comes complete with a fishing pole and trout.  Not live of course.  The game sets up with the box opening up (like the picture above).  Inside are a few holes filled with tightly packed spring trout ready to jump at the bait you toss at them using the provided pole and reel.  Because JCG was so involved in the design of the packaging, we were able to get a few casts in with an early prototype. . .

Last night Apple’s newest operating system was released.  Version 10.5, As one analyst says: “It’s not revolutionary, but evolutionary.” With now only about 2 and 3/4 minutes of actual play time in this new operating system while standing in the Apple Store in San Luis Obispo, I’ve seen that it is worth the affordable $130 price tag.  So as soon as I am sure that the my major applications play well with it, I’ll be making the jump.  Until then, I’ll have to enjoy the reviews and screen captures of others.
